Medicare does not pay for assisted living. Families pay from savings and income, long-term care insurance, or benefits such as VA Aid and Attendance (estimate it). Who actually pays for long-term care.
Medicaid. Nebraska Medicaid's Aged and Disabled Waiver pays for a service called Supported Residential Living, which used to be called Assisted Living, in licensed assisted living facilities. You must get Nebraska Medicaid and need a nursing-home level of care, and you pay the room and board yourself. Program: Medicaid HCBS Aged and Disabled (AD) Waiver: Supported Residential Living (formerly Assisted Living).2 Medicaid does not pay rent or meals in assisted living in any state, and not every community accepts it, so ask each one.
Look up a license. The state's License Information System lets you search licensed facilities and view assisted living inspection results. Search Nebraska’s records.6
Inspection reports. The state inspects assisted living facilities before licensing and routinely after that. Results of all inspections are posted in the License Information System search.6

Complaints about care or conditions. The DHHS Licensure Unit takes complaints about health care facilities, including assisted living, and may investigate or refer you to another agency.
