Two kinds of assisted living in Ocala

18larger communities (17+ residents): apartments, a dining room, activities staff, often memory care on site; 16 have 50 or more residents.
3small residential homes (16 or fewer): a house in a neighborhood, a few caregivers, home-style meals, often a lower monthly price and a higher staff-to-resident ratio.

Both are licensed by Florida as assisted living. Larger communities suit people who want social life and on-site services; small homes suit people who do better with quiet, familiar routines, including many people with dementia. Florida words these licenses as “Assisted Living Facility” (21).
