Mahoney House

We've been pleased with my mother's care up to this point, we've had no issues. She likes the food that she gets. I usually eat there once a week and I like the food as well. The building is kept really clean. They offer a good set of activities. This community is a very good value and we're very pleased with it.

We are really pleased and tickled with the life mom is able to live now. She got healthier when she moved from her house to Mahoney House. She is 95 and going better than we expected. We love the food here. They have never sent anything my mother doesn't like. The activities calendar is full. I haven't heard anyone complain that there isn't anything to do. They have music, bingo, exercises, movies and bible study every week. The cleaning has been excellent. The staff is highly motivated to be there for patient’s needs. Mom's needs are so minimal but yet they are promptly served.

Management has good communication and most of the time the quality of the food is good. There is a lot going on at this community and my mother's room is always very clean. Houskeeping comes regularly to get the trash and do the laundry. The building is very clean and the caregivers are on top of everything.

It is an independent residential community built around a courtyard and the halls are wide. I call it Best Western meets Assisted Living. I think our Director is organized, she has a medical license herself, and she is willing to help if they're short-staffed. She is willing to listen and she knows what she wants. She is working to bring back consistency and quality to our community here. Every week we get our rooms clean and our laundry done, and I am satisfied with how housekeeping does. The maintenance man comes every month to change filters and clean them. The dining and food is good. There's been a little more variety lately; we're quite satisfied at my table. After almost three years, mom is happy there. She likes it there, the community is smaller, and she has known some of the residents that have come through have been friends. Her pastor comes in to serve communion for her so she is happy with that. She does get help via Medicaid, so I think the value is excellent. I think for her age, the activities are appropriate. She has been doing the exercises, I ask about that. She will be 93. When I walk in, from what I see posted, they do personal activities. Like they can watch sports on TV, have snacks, and have fun together. I think the Activities Director is doing a good job. I know they have bingo, and a walking club to walk around the building. Another resident there is younger and has started a coloring class, and that has been a real plus for my mom. I am really happy Mahoney is encouraging that. She hasn’t complained at all about the food and I think they offer her a good variety. Her weight has remained stable which is a good sign. She hasn't made any complaints about the service from the wait staff. I think for the most part housekeeping is doing a good job. I don’t see dust sitting around and I know when I take her out for appointments or is gone for the day they try to get in there and clean good, they come in regularly. They do her laundry and I have no complaints, I haven’t noticed any clothes missing. Maintenance helped with a couple issues in the beginning, I haven’t really noticed anything lately. I think it looks nice, they decorate for the holidays and do things like that, and outside they have flowers in the summer. It always looks clean when I go through the building. As I know things are fine with management. Amy, the Director, works really hard and deserves credit for that. My brother lives there and so he's probably recommended it more than I, but we have always liked the community. It's a smaller atmosphere and much easier for her to handle. We can never repay them for the value of the care mom receives there.

We shopped around before mother diecided on where she wanted to be and we have been real pleased with what she gets for what she pays. Mother is very happy with the food there and when I have eaten there I thought it has been very good. The service is very good at getting meals out. My mother is 98 and does not get out much but when she does she likes the Bingo and when they have school groups come in and read stories or sing. Mother has had some issues, like last February. The carestaff has been very good at working through them. I have no concern with the staff there. We really like the inner courtyard. She has thoroughly enjoyed that.
