The Groves, A Merrill Gardens Community

My mother walked in the door Christmas time 2 years ago and she said she was good at The Groves without wanting to see any other communities. She has been comfortable and has had most of her needs met at the community, so we always feel good about going there because most of the front desk is positive and they recognize you. Regarding location, the pricing and the quality, my brother and I really have no issues and are really happy with the place. They have a lot of activities offered there and there is calendars posted. From what I see when I look in the room, it's neat, clean and the bathroom is clean so I have no problem with the level of cleaning being done and the maintenance is generally good and timely. The maintenance man was very responsive when I have talked to him and he has taken care of the problems when we have moved from apartment to apartment, so he has always been good with making sure we do walkthroughs and being helpful with all of that. On top of that, the building is always clean, bright and we did also engage a driver for a medical appointment and that too was excellent since they were timely and took care of everything, so it's all great.

We looked around quite a bit before we made the decision and it was a big decision because my father has been with me for many years. Sometimes in life you get a good fit and The Groves is it, it's like finding a woman and you can't say enough about the person. It starts with the management at the community, any problem or issue I have had with my father they have responded very positively and comprehensively to the satisfaction of my father because they're compassionate. The food has excellent taste, it's healthy, abundant and the waitresses are just as good as the food, so I just can't say enough about the dining room staff either because they treat my father like it's their father, bringing him exactly what he orders. They have a nice movie theater, there is a nice activity room, his room is kept clean and maintenance has gone above and beyond with installing a TV for us, so they're very good too. Overall, it's been a good experience and the biggest star is Merrill Gardens because they have hired all these people.

My mother has been at The Groves since February of 2017 and I think the safety is very good there since it's a total lockdown. Even if I have taken her out after 8PM, they still have people there that could get her inside to an environment that she familiar with. Management is always respectful, I think they're very nice and they seem to care about her. The dining is fine and I think the activities are very good, they do a lot of sing-alongs and she loves to sing so we're satisfied with what is offered to the residents. It's a fairly new community so it is in very good shape and I think the healthcare staff is very efficient on the whole. They seem to care and they make sure she gets her medications, so they really do try to keep everyone safe and well. Overall, I really do think it's a good community and I have recommended it to my friend's mother as well, who has since moved in.

Everything has been good for the past year at The Groves for my dad. It's a little expensive, but it's the only place I know that lets him drink his wine. I think the care is going really well. Maintenance has been good, and housekeeping comes in once a week and we're mostly satisfied. The activities are fine, and dad has no problem eating any of the food. All in all, dad's comfortable there, and us family know he's safe at The Groves.

I know my mom is comfortable at The Groves, and safe too. I am pleased with Celeste, the Executive Director. I am pleased with her leadership style and what she brings to the table. The caregivers do a good job. People like Carmen, Cherie, and Mayama all do a good job caring for my mother in Memory Care. Maintenance also does a good job. Mike runs that, and I've been very pleased. The food in Memory Care is fine, the service is good, and it's improved greatly with the new chef in that unit. I'm fine with the housekeeping, and I think they do a pretty good job staying on top of laundry. I'm pretty satisfied with the activities. I think the price is appropriate; the value has the right balance to it. I absolutely would refer someone; I absolutely have and continue to do that.

We have had some fantastic and quick responses from management and others that have fallen flat. It depends on how busy they are. If you need anything or you want to know the status of something, Veronica, at the front desk, will always find it out for you. She will make sure you are informed. If there is some form of entertainment, my parents will both go and they love it. My mom's all-time favorite thing is when this community does the nail painting. The girl who does the planning of the activities, does a great job. The housekeeping is great. Mike, in maintenance, has always been extremely accessible. If he cannot get there, he sends someone over to communicate when he will be there. Even if something cannot be fixed right away, you know that they are trying and they communicate well. My parents had a light fixture that needed to be repaired. Mike communicated with them every step of the way. The building is great. My mother just suffered a heart attack last week and was in the hospital for six days. The medical team will come for the first 72 hours after a hospital stay. They come in and check her vitals. My parents both have the fall guard and both have pennants. They have had to push their pennants and the response has been great. The caregivers have had to call 911 more than once for my parents in the last 2 years and that is always done timely. Both Sam and Lyla, who are caregivers, have gone above and beyond for my parents.

The Groves was chosen for my wife because I had her here earlier this year. The food is very good and the activities seem pretty good as well at The Groves. Housekeeping keeps everything pretty clean. Mike does a good job with maintenance and the transporation service is very good.

I moved my husband into The Groves because it was close to Pebble Creek where we live. The management is very good at this community. I haven't seen anything or needed anything that needs to be done by maintenance. They just started providing laundry for us this week now that we have his number on everything; it's been fine. It's kept up very nice.

I've been trying to get my Uncle here from Georgia for the last 1 1/2 years and management has stood by me through this process. Renata was very kind and helpful over the last year and a half. My Uncle has only been there since Sunday and everything is going very smooth. The food is good and the dining service is excellent. The activities are very good, my Uncle is dancing now and he's been very active so far. The staff, caregivers and managers in memory care are excellent. They really made him feel at home.
